Material tanks hold more than a cartridge can and are pressurised so the medium reaches the valve without a pump. They are used where dispensing runs for longer periods without interruption. Selection follows volume, permitted working pressure and wetted material.

By volume and by permitted working pressure, since that pressure limits the viscosity that can still be conveyed. The wetted material and the lid seal have to suit the medium.
With a cartridge, compressed air acts on the medium through a piston. With a material tank, the medium stands in a closed vessel that is pressurised as a whole. Refilling means opening the tank, the set-up downstream stays untouched.
With moisture sensitive media. The medium stands open in the vessel and is in contact with the pressurised atmosphere above it. That is the limiting point of this design.
