Dispensing needles

The dispensing needle is the last part before the workpiece and it sets dot size, bead width and cut off behaviour. This category holds needles in various inner diameters, lengths and designs, tapered or straight, with a luer lock fitting for cartridges, syringes and valves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tapered needles build up less pressure and suit higher viscosities. Straight steel needles place the dot more precisely and reach recessed areas. The design therefore follows the medium and the accessibility.

Every extra millimetre of length raises the flow resistance and delays the cut off. A longer needle is chosen only when the geometry of the workpiece calls for it.

The inner diameter is the most effective variable in the whole set-up. In laminar flow it enters the volume flow to the fourth power: a needle with half the inner diameter passes about one sixteenth of the amount at the same pressure. Small dots call for narrow, viscous media for wide.

The cause is rarely the adhesive. A needle that is too long or too narrow keeps pressure in the channel after closing, and the material follows as the needle lifts. Shorter and wider is usually the faster fix than a change to the dispensing program.
