End caps
End caps close the cartridge at the tip and at the rear. They keep the medium in the container when dispensing is interrupted and limit the ingress of air and moisture during storage and transport. They are selected by cartridge size.

No. It limits the ingress of air, it does not stop it. How long an opened container stays usable is stated in the technical data sheet of the material and depends on the medium, not on the cap.
Whenever an opened cartridge stands still: overnight, between two batches or in transit. Without a cap the tip dries up and the first shot afterwards lands off target.
